Sometimes, it is the simplest toys that are the most popular. In the world of technology in which we live, sometimes the most fun you can have includes your own creativity.
What could be better than squishing your fingers into soft clay? Play-Doh is a pliable modeling compound used by children for arts and crafts. It is a favorite toy of many children in many countries, but especially in North America. Children of all ages love to squish their hands in this soft dough and make anything that they can imagine.
Play-Doh first started when a preschool teacher told her relative about a problem she had. The clay in her classroom was too hard for the children to play with. She wanted something softer that the children could use. Her friend thought about the wallpaper cleaner she was using in her house to clean soot from the walls. It was non-toxic, soft and lasted a long time. Perfect! The dough became popular with kids right away.
But Play-Doh isn't just popular with kids. In London, a person made an extraordinary car out of Play-Doh! It is known as the biggest Play-Doh sculpture ever.
Letting children play with slime sounds like a parent's worst nightmare. But that's exactly what happened in 1976 when Slime was released! It is a viscous, gooey, green material that oozes between your fingers when you hold it. The slime must be kept in its container; being left outside causes it to dry out and get stuck in fabric or hair. Slime became a very popular toy; it even appeared in movies such as Flubber and television shows on the children's channel, Nickelodeon.
Polymer clay is a type of modelling clay that is used for arts and crafts. It is odorless and non-toxic. Despite its name, polymer clay contains no clay at all. What makes polymer clay special is that it can be cured. When it is put in the oven, it does not melt; instead, it hardens. That makes it useful for making small figures.
Air dry clay is a fun material to work with. It hardens without needing to be heated up. It allows you to make things like plates, mugs, and vases without a kiln. What a great way to get into the world of pottery!
Plasticine is a very popular modelling clay for children. Its unique properties make it so that it never dries out. It was invented in England by an art teacher who wanted non-drying clay for his students. He created a non-toxic, soft clay that did not dry when exposed to air. It was an instant hit with children; schools everywhere bought it to teach art.
One of the reasons Plasticine is so popular is because it lasts a long time. Because it does not dry out, it can be reused time and time again. This makes it popular in schools; they save money. It is also a popular choice in the film industry; it is often used to create stop-motion animations.
So, if you are looking for a simple way to have fun and be creative, why not consider one of these toys. Use your inner creativity and see what you can make!
