description Exercise
Take a look at your clothes. Do you think they are pieces of art? Well, maybe they are!
Many artists are designers. A designer draws and makes something. They spend a long time creating something new. It takes lots of tries to get it right.
Designers can design houses. They can design bridges. They can design cars. They can design fashion.
Fashion is anything we wear. Fashion designers make clothes into art. They make clothes with different shapes. They make clothes with different colours. They make clothes with different patterns.
Tie-dye is a type of art. It is used for clothes. It is very colourful.
Tie-dye started in China or Japan. People used berries as dye. It is still done today.
Tie-dye is easy to make. In fact, it can be done at home. You only need a t-shirt, dye, and rubber bands.
Take a white cotton t-shirt. Wet it, then dry it out. Twist the t-shirt from the middle. Twist it until it is a small, flat shape. Put rubber bands around it. Then cover it in dye.
Leave it for 24 hours. Then rinse out the dye. When you open it, it will be colourful! It should have beautiful spirals on it.
Batik is a type of art. It is very old. It has been done for a long time.
Batik is created by wax-resist dyeing. Hot wax is put on cloth. The wax is put on in a nice pattern. Some people use a stencil to make it neat.
Next, the dye is put on top. Then the wax is taken off in hot water. Artists do this many times. They create amazing designs.
Many designers in the world love fashion. They love making new clothes for people to wear. Just like art, fashion is always changing.
