Editing and revision is an important part of the writing process. After you are finished with your essay, you should go back and read it, making sure that you are saying everything clearly. Then, you should read it again a day or two later, and see if anything needs to be changed.

In this class, you are required to turn in a rough draft and a final draft. The rough draft is like your first try, which means that you can try again. While we do sit down and talk about your essays together, you should also be revising and editing yourself.

When you are editing, look for these common errors:

  • Run-on sentences.
  • subject/verb agreement
  • capitalization
  • punctuation
  • misspellings

Also, try to make sure that your sentences lead into each other. Sentences should always be transitioning into the next one smoothly. For instance, if there is a sentence about playing the clarinet, the next sentence should not be about playing football.

No matter what, you should always edit and revise your essay, and all of your homework, before you turn it in.
