The Poisoning of Paradise Hawaii

Introduction

For just over the last two decades, Hawaii has been the open testing field for GMOs, Genetically Modified Organisms, and pharmaceutical crops.

It has been estimated that more than 5,000 experimental tests have been carried out by Monsanto, Dow, Dupont/Pioneer, Syngenta and BASF and that some of the most valuable land in Hawaii has been sprayed with a chemical cocktail on a daily basis.

These large chemical companies are supported by tax breaks and beneficial relationships with landowners, regulators and politicians. It has been conservatively estimated that the GMO companies own or lease 40,000 - 60,000 acres which are sprayed with around 70 different chemicals in order to produce high yielding crops.

A new vision for Hawaii has been envisaged in which small farms will be promoted to produce crops free from chemical sprays, employ local youth and restore the AHUPUA’A system.
