Exercise 1

In pairs, you will take turns asking polite questions to each other in Exercise 1. Student A will go first. Change the direct question to an indirect question. Student B will answer, and then you switch.

  • Where did you go last night?
  • Could you tell me where you went last night?

You can use these to start:

  • Could you tell me...
  • Do you know...
  • Have you any idea...
  • Would you mind telling me...

Exercise 2

In Exercise 2, read the first part of the sentence to your partner and they should finish the sentence with the correct question tag.

If you are checking, you must use rising intonation. (voice goes up)

If you are making conversation, you must use falling / flat intonation. (voice slightly goes down)

Exercise 1
