- Students read their situations to their partners. Partners listen to the situations and offer strong advice and a consequence.
- Strong advice should contain the form, "had better," or "had better not."
Example:
I forgot my girlfriend's birthday.
You had better buy her flowers or she will leave you.

- My girlfriend / boyfriend has been angry with me for the last two weeks. We haven't talked about it.
- I am thinking about quitting my job because it's boring.
- I am going to leave my nice laptop in the classroom at break time.
- I have lost my passport.
- I haven't taken a shower in two days.
- I am planning to take a vacation next week, but I haven't told the school.
- I have been invited to a party but am afraid because I know someone is going to be there that really hates me.
- I parked my bicycle outside without a lock.
- My favourite place to smoke in Vancouver is in front of doorways.
- I have to get into an English university within six months.
- I have been spending a lot of money lately.
- My tooth has been killing me lately.
- Immigration called me this morning and left a message.
- I'm planning to eat at the most popular restaurant in Vancouver this evening with six of my friends.
- I haven't paid my cell phone bill in three months.
- I am thinking about shaving my head.
- I am planning to go hiking and go off of the trails.
