  • I’m going to play hockey after school.
  • I’m going to go on a field trip next week.
  • My family is going to fly to Mexico next month.

We also use ‘going to’ when we want to make predictions about the future.

  • Mike’s birthday party is going to be fun!
  • It’s going to rain soon.
  • I’m going to be tired tomorrow morning.

To make a sentence with ‘going to’ we need these parts:

  1. A subject:
    • We are going to have fun!
  2. The very ‘be’:
    • We are going to have fun!
  3. ‘Going to’
    • We are going to have fun!
  4. A second verb
    • We are going to have fun!

To make a sentence negative using ‘going to’ we put a ‘not’ between the verb’ be’ and ‘going to’:

  • I am not going to play hockey after school.
  • It is not going to rain today.
  • I am not going to give up!
