We use ‘I will’ to talk about the future.

We use ‘I will’ to make promises about the future.

  • I promise I will do my homework tonight.
  • I promise I will help wash the dishes after dinner.

We don’t need to use ‘I promise’.

  • I will do my homework tonight.
  • I will help wash the dishes after dinner.

We also use ‘I will’ to offer to help people.

  • I will answer the phone for you.
  • I will clean that up for you!

Like ‘going to’, ‘I will’ can also be used to make predictions about the future.

  • It will be sunny tomorrow.
  • Our hockey team will win the next game!

Instead of ‘I will’ we can make it shorter by using ‘I’ll’

  • I’ll do my homework tonight.
  • I’ll clean that up for you!

We don't use ‘I will’ to talk about our plans! Instead we use ‘going to’.

  • I will go to China in a month
  • I am going to go to China in a month
