Teacher Notes

Objectives & Sequence: This lesson is intended to be used as a review of Grammar 1-1.

The following vocabulary words are used in this activity:

Students work in pairs. Each student opens his or her respective tab.

On each page, there are two parts. In one part, Student One is presented with five sentences. Student Two is presented with 5 sets of questions and answers.

Student Two asks the first question to Student One. Student One must listen to the question and use the sentence on his or her page to come up with the correct answer. They answer the question by changing the repeated nouns in the sentence to pronouns. Student Two listens and confirms whether or not the answer is correct.

In the second part of the activity, roles are reversed.

Example

Student One's Page:

Jim is playing cards with Pete.

Student Two's Page:

Q: What's Jim doing with Pete?

A: He's playing cards with him.


What's Jim doing with Pete?

He's playing cards with him.

Right!

Part One

Use these sentences to answer your partner's questions:

  1. I love tomatoes.
  2. Jessica is using the apple to make fruit salad.
  3. My computer's broken.
  4. Julian and Bill are in the car.
  5. Chris and I are both engineers.

Part Two

Ask your partner these questions. Check his or her answers:

  1. Q: What's the weather like today?
    • A: It's sunny today.
  2. Q: Why don't you want any grapes?
    • A: Because I don't like them.
  3. Q: What is Janet's plan?
    • A: She is coming with us to the party.
  4. Q: Why are you wearing safety glasses?
    • A: Because I can't work without them.
  5. Q: When is Halloween?
    • A: It's on October 31st.

Part One

Ask your partner these questions. Check his or her answers:

  1. Q: How do you feel about tomatoes?
    • A: I love them.
  2. Q: Why did Jessica buy an apple?
    • A: She is using it to make fruit salad.
  3. Q: What's wrong with your computer?
    • A: It's broken.
  4. Q: Where are Julian and Bill?
    • A: They are in the car.
  5. Q: How do you know Chris?
    • A: We are both engineers.

Part Two

Use these sentences to answer your partner's questions:
