For this Lesson, you will write a five-paragraph essay of 1000 words or more in response to the following prompt:
Human-caused Climate Change has created a very real threat to the environment and humanity's future, yet there are deniers to this scientific reality. In what way(s) can we make real and lasting changes to protect our global environment and humanity's well-being?
You need to discuss three different aspects of Climate Change as it relates to the Essay prompt with each representing a Body Paragraph of your Essay. For this Essay, it is recommended that you first explain how human-caused Climate Change is overwhelmingly agreed upon by credible scientists worldwide, then discuss two points that support your research. Suggested areas that could be investigated are:
- Universal agreement of human-caused climate change
- Motivation behind Climate Change deniers
- Observed emperical effects of human-caused climate change
Steps to writing the essay
Research
For this essay, you will be responsible for finding and deciding on all of your own sources. Your final essay must have at least 4 sources, but can use up to 6. Find many more websites than you need and take a great deal of notes on each. Be sure to keep your notes organized so you know which site they are from. Articles should be at least 1000 words or more and can not be summaries or sites such as Wikipedia.
Essay Outline
Using the patterns you have learned, you need to organize and put your ideas into an Outline. You must not use full sentence structure. Simply put notes into what will eventually become your essay structure. Share your Outline as a Google Document with your instructor. Be sure to use the following name for your document using your personal information.

Write the Essay
Using your Outline, expand your ideas into complete sentences of appropriate length. Your First Draft should be at least 800 words long and contain most of your ideas. Your Draft also needs a Reference section with the sources you use for your essay and Citations in the essay when the ideas or words from sources are used. Drafts and the resulting Final Essay must both be shared as Google Documents on their due dates and must be titled:

Your Draft and Final Essay must also follow certain formatting criteria very closely. Here is a list of all criteria that must be followed:
- Paper Size: Letter size (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Document Margins: One inch (2.54 cm) on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)
- Font Size, Type, and Color: 12-pt. Times New Roman (color = black)
- Line Spacing: Double-spaced throughout the paper
- Paragraph Alignment: Flush left (creating uneven right margin)
- Paragraph Indentation: 0.5” First-line Indent
- Spacing after Punctuation: Space once within sentences and at the end.
- Reference Indentation: 0.5” Hanging Indent
- Page Numbers: Inserted in the Header at the top right corner on every page.
Use “Page Breaks”, not multiple enter marks to get to the next page of your document.
Use “center” for Title pages instead of many single spaces.
