Articles “a/an”
We use “a” when the noun starts with a consonant sound.
We use “an” when the noun starts with a vowel sound.
Exceptions
- When the “u” sounds like a “y”.

- When consonants have a vowel sound.

Plural nouns
When there is more than one object we add an “-s” / “-es” / “-ies” to the word.
- Add “-s” at the end of most nouns.
- a dog → dogs
- an apple → apples
- a teacher → teachers
- a mechanic → mechanics
- Add “-es” at the end of nouns that end with -ch/ -sh / -o / -x / -s
- a church → churches
- a dish → dishes
- a potato → potatoes
- a box → boxes
- a bus → buses
- Add “ies” at the end of nouns that end with a consonant and “y”.

- a candy → candies
- a sky → skies
