Here are some of the clause structures you can use to describe the data in a graph or chart:

Noun phrase + verb + adjective
The trend in customer numbers was upward.

Noun phrase + verb + adverb
Customer numbers fluctuated slightly.

There + is + [adj + noun] + in + noun phrase
There were considerable fluctuations in customer numbers

Noun phrase + verb
customer numbers fell
