Students work in groups of three to four and open the corresponding pages below. Read the sentences and vocabulary word to your group. The group then must make a sentence with a modal verb of probability and the vocabulary word, answering your question.

  1. Jane works every day in an airplane. She is not a pilot. What do you think she does? (flight attendant)
  2. On the airplane, I didn't have a window seat. Also, I didn't sit in a middle seat. Where did I sit? (aisle)
  3. John has a car from Japan. How did it get to this country? (transport)
  4. Did everyone in your group bring a bag to class? (backpack)
  1. Men always fall in love with my sister. Do you think she is gorgeous? (gorgeous)
  2. John just arrived in this city on holiday. What do you think he might do tomorrow? (go sightseeing)
  3. My suitcase is red. Now, I am holding a black suitcase. Is this suitcase mine? (luggage)
  4. They are going to visit many different islands on their vacation. What kind of vacation are they taking? (cruise)
  1. John was sitting at this table. Now he is gone. Whose things are these? (belongings)
  2. Jane's husband travels a lot. Why do you think he travels alone? (overseas)
  3. Every day, I check people's passports and visa at the border. What do I do? (customs)
  4. The old couple are staying in a very nice hotel. They have lots of luggage. What kind of trip are they taking? (backpacking)
  1. Jane and John are going to Mexico next week. They are going to stay close to the beach. Where do you think they are staying? (resort)
  2. John's airplane arrived four hours late. Do you think the airplane departed on time? (depart)
  3. There was a car accident on the highway this morning. John knew this so he didn't drive on the highway. How did John get to school? (route)
