Playgrounds are usually on land, right? Well, that's not the case for a playground on a New Hampshire lake. The playground is floating on the lake! It looks like an iceberg and it has been used as a diving platform. The neat part is children played a part in creating this structure.
How is it floating? The structure is made from local wood, and it sits on empty flotation barrels. Depending on how the sunlight hits the playground, it will look either white or blue. This is supposed to look like a melting iceberg.
This treehouse is made out of steel and pine. It can be found in the state of Arkansas. This treehouse was made to bring children back to nature and enjoy what it has to offer. Apertures were also created on two sides of the structure, which provide a clear view of the forest.
This asymmetrical structure can appear to be leaning on one side. It can also camouflage itself and blend in with the forest. The fabrication shop made sure that different parts of the structure resemble tree branches and leaves. This treehouse sits at 7.6 meters above the ground. It was built higher up so that it does not disturb the earth below.
Mikiya Kobayashi created five unique playground pieces for children to enjoy. There is a swing, seesaw, cradle, mountain, and rocking chair. The pieces were featured in a Tokyo design shop. They're made sustainably with a kind of Japanese hardwood and then covered with fabrics. Music was also written to accompany this space. The soundscape is supposed to help with creating a happy atmosphere. The playground pieces were made so that people of all ages could interact with them.
The Folds is a community playground. It provides a way for children to explore in a less regulated way. It encourages children to be more tactile. Instead of the usual playground equipment like swings and slides, this playground wants children to play with the existing folds and shapes.
An office in Brazil went through a series of conversions to turn into a school and playground. Here you will find zigzagging hallways that lead to the six classrooms. You could cuddle up with a good book in one of its alcoves too. The ceiling is black with white dots, which is supposed to resemble an illuminated starry sky. A lot of the furniture was fabricated within a few kilometres of the school.
Adding to the playfulness of its playground, it’s covered in colourful rubber flooring. There are tunnels that allow students to climb through. Students can also hop onto chunky mounds and floating steps.
In Virginia, USA, there is a very special playground called Clemyjontri Park. It is one of the most famous playgrounds in the world for being a place where disabled and non-disabled kids can play happily together. The park was designed so that children with disabilities, some of whom use wheelchairs, could congregate and play comfortably and safely with other kids.
There are swings with special safety features, and lowered monkey bars for easy access. If you bring your lunch, you can check out the picnic pavilion. It's the perfect spot for a beautiful afternoon picnic. Today, many kids with or without disabilities enjoy the park's colourful and engaging spaces!
These playful structures don't need to be contained to playgrounds. Some city infrastructures can be just as fun. There is a bridge in Germany that looks like it's made out of LEGO bricks. Of course, it is much sturdier than the popular building blocks. The bridge is made out of concrete, so curious hands cannot take the bridge apart.
Places can undergo wonderful transformations. Think about your space. What could you do to add a bit more playfulness?
