Count nouns
Count nouns are things that are countable. These types of nouns will have an "s" at the end to show plural form.
Singular count nouns
- desk
- chair
- pen
- baby
- seat
- car
- bird
Plural count nouns
- desks
- chairs
- pens
- babies
- seats
- cars
- birds
Noncount nouns
Noncount nouns are nouns that you cannot add an “s” at the end. Nonetheless, you can still use them in a countable form by putting the article "a" before the the noun.
- It takes work to prepare a nice dinner.
- There are different types of weather around the world.
- Our happiness is overwhelming!
Examples (countable form):
- Your dish is a work of art.
- Merlot is a red wine.
Countable and Noncountable nouns
Sometimes, you can add an "s" at the end of a noncount noun to make it countable. Usually, you do this when you are referring to a specific example of that noun, and also a specific number of that noun.
