We are going to look at the labour practices of one of the largest brands in the world, Nike.

Discuss the following questions with a partner or group:

  • What does the Nike brand symbolize to you?
  • Have you ever owned a pair of Nikes? If so, how many?
  • Is Nike a sponsor of any athletic teams in your country? What about famous athletes who are paid to represent the brand?
  • Do you know of any companies or brands that have controversial business or labour practices?
  • Have you ever made a decision not to buy a product for this reason?
  • Would you ever pay more for a product that had reputable business practices? Why or why not?
