Ecotourism is a unique way for tourists to experience a local town, and a great way to conserve nature.

Imagine that you have been hired to create an ecotourism program for your town.

There are several steps involved in this project. First, you will need to research a natural biome that will be the focus of ecotourism in your town.

Use the 'Biome Research' sheet to record notes while you research about the natural biome of your town. What type of habitat is it? Some other questions to consider are:

  • What are the features of this biome?
  • What are some types of plants or animals that live in this biome?

Once you have completed this research, it's time to find some pictures of natural sights in your local town! Here are some natural wonders of Vancouver, Canada.

Find 8-10 photos of natural sights in your town, and use the sheet 'Photos' to save these images.

Your next task is to write a report about one animal, plant, or landform in the biome you have chosen. Refer back to your notes in the 'Biome Research' sheet to get started, and then conduct additional research once you have chosen one thing to focus on. Keep the following questions in mind while you are researching, and use the 'Report' sheet to take notes.

  • What are the physical characteristics of the animal, plant, or landform?
  • What is the history of it? How long has it existed in the biome?
  • How does the animal or plant survive?
  • How do humans interact with the animal, plant, or landform?

Once you have completed your research, write a one page report on your chosen topic using the 'Report' sheet.

Your last task is to create a brochure to advertise your ecotourism program! Remember, you want to create a brochure that will attract visitors to explore your town.

Use the information and photos you have gathered so far to create this brochure. Use the 'Brochure' sheet to put everything together.
