The Earth has four main oceans. These are the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, and the Arctic. The Earth also has many seas. These seas all flow into one of the big oceans.

Our oceans and seas are home to many plants and animals. The biggest animal in the world, a blue whale, lives in the ocean. Blue whales live in all the oceans, except the Arctic. They swim alone or in pairs. They spend the summers in the polar waters, and then migrate during the winters. They are incredible animals.

There are many (228,450) kinds of animals living in the oceans. These are the ones we know about. There are millions more that we don't know about.

Jellyfish, squids, and octopuses live in the oceans. Some of these are dangerous. Some of these are gigantic! What else lives in the ocean? Fish, sharks, turtles, and snakes live in the oceans. Shellfish, whales, dolphins, and starfish also live in the oceans. Can you name more?

Coral is a kind of animal that lives in the ocean. This is a coral reef. Coral is one of the most important parts of a reef. Without coral the reef dies and animals have no home. When you go into the sun do you wear sunscreen? Some sunscreen is damaging for the coral. Wear coral-safe sunscreen if you go swimming near a coral reef.

Some reefs are made of sand or rock. Some are even made by humans using old shipwrecks. You can go snorkeling on shallow reefs and see so much cool ocean life. These are tropical fish. You can see them in warm oceans. They are bright, and colourful. You have to put your head underwater to see them clearly. It is best to wear a snorkel and a mask so you can watch them for longer.

You can try scuba diving in the ocean. You can go deep into the water if you try scuba diving. You need to wear a wetsuit, a mask, flippers, and an oxygen tank. The tank and mask help you breathe underwater. It is beautiful under the water.

You can see so many wonderful things underwater. I want to see a dumbo octopus. How about you?
