There are so many different kinds of world record.

Some are strange, like the most pegs on a person's face.

Some people don't have to do anything to get a world record, like the world's tallest woman.

Some records need a lot of people, like the record for most people using a hula hoop at the same time.

Some world records are dangerous, like when this man walked through pieces of glass.
One useful world record was made by the magazine National Geographic Kids. They collected 16,407 old shoes and put them all together.

The shoes were used to make floors for basketball courts and playgrounds.

National Geographic Kids also broke another record on the same day. It was the record for most people running 100 meters in 24 hours. The magazine wanted to show that they care about health and the planet.
