Because many clothing companies lack sustainable practices, there has been a rise in something called sustainable fashion (also called eco fashion). In this lesson, we'll read an article about this rising topic in sustainability.
Part One: Warm Up
Discuss the following questions with a partner or group:
- Do you buy a lot of clothes? How often do you buy clothes?
- What criteria is most important to you when you buy clothes? For example, do you care mainly about price, design, comfort or trendiness?
- Would you buy clothes from a company if you knew the factory workers had poor working conditions? What about if the company was polluting the environment with manufacturing waste?
- Have you ever heard of vegan clothes? If not, what do you think they would be like?
- Fashion and STEM may initially seem to have little in common. How do you think fashion and STEM could be related?
