Part One: Warm Up
- Sometimes, in our lives, problems are all we see. However, there are some good things that happen to us. Think about what you are thankful for. Share with your partner(s) what you are thankful for.
- Have you ever written a thank you note for a birthday present? Have you ever written a thank you note for a job interview? What would be other occasions where you would send someone a thank you note or email?
- Why do you think it’s important to send someone a thank you email?
Part Two: Thank You Email Format
It’s considered good manners to write a “thank you” message each time you receive an act of kindness. This can be for excellent customer service, receiving a gift, having the opportunity to have a job interview, or meeting someone important.
Take a look at the thank you email below. What are the different parts of the thank you email? With your partner(s), discuss the purpose of each paragraph of a thank you email.
Teacher Notes
1st paragraph - Expresses thanks.
2nd paragraph - Reason(s) for expressing thanks.
3rd paragraph - Thanking the person again.
Amazing trip
To: re-laxdayspay@gmail.com
Dear Re-Lax Day Spa,
I wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for the relaxing service you provided that went above and beyond my expectations during my trip to the day spa.
Not only did Heidi give me a much-needed massage, but your other employee, Linette, also gave me the best manicure and pedicure I’ve ever had. In fact, She even gave me a complimentary hair treatment as she noticed I had a lot of split ends. In the end, I was offered some tea, which was brewed to perfection! To be honest, I was having a terrible week and I didn’t think your spa could help me feel better. Fortunately, many of your employees made it so much better for me! Whenever I have the time to visit your spa again, I’m hoping to bring some of my friends with me to show them the amazing service you guys offer. You can be sure that I will ask for the same massage therapist and manicurist by name.
Thank you again for a job well done, and I hope to visit your branch in the near future. I can’t wait!
Relaxed and satisfied,
Veronica Marsden
