Part One: Warm Up
Discuss the following questions with your partner(s).
- What are some situations in which we complain? Think of some and also think of what outcomes you would like. For example, a dirty hotel room = one free night
- Have you ever complained to a company before? How was the experience? If you’ve never written or called a company to formally complain, what do you think it would be like?
Look at the following scenarios. Discuss whether or not you would return the item and ask for a refund in each situation with your partner(s). Make sure that you explain why.
- You ordered a burger at a restaurant. When you start eating, you don’t like it.
- You bought some jeans at a store. You didn’t have time to try them on, and when you get home, you realize that they are too big.
- You bought a pair of waterproof hiking boots. The first time you go hiking in them, you walk through a puddle and your feet get wet.
- You bought some salsa at the grocery store. When you start eating it, you realize that you accidentally picked up the ‘hot’ salsa instead of the mild.
- You bought a shirt at a store. When you put it on for the first time, you realize that one of the buttons is missing.
