Who, what and where
- The server informs the guests about specials, takes the food order and delivers the food to the table.
- The line chefs and salad chefs prepare the food in the kitchen.
- The manager can help with any of these steps.
- When food is ready, the server picks it up at the pass.
Know your menu!
- Different menu items have different sides or subs available. Make sure to ask the right questions!
- Know what is in each meal and how the meal is prepared.
- If a menu item isn't available, tell the table before they order and recommend an alternative.
Steps for taking a food order
- Ask if the party is ready to order.
- Inform the guests about the daily food special.
- Ask if the table would like to start with appetizers.
- Take food orders starting at seat 1 and working clockwise.
- Find out which sides each guest would like.
- Offer add-ons or subs.
- Offer a personal recommendation (if needed).
- Explain menu items including ingredients and cooking methods(if needed).
- Write down the details on your service pad as the guest is speaking.
- Repeat the order to the guests.
- Inform the guests of how long their food will take.
- Ask the party if they would like anything else.
- Put the order into the computer.
