Let’s review the way we format the past simple.  Unlike the present simple, the verb can change the format a bit.

Regular Verbs

In the past tense, a regular verb has “-ed” added to the base verb.

  • Look → Looked
  • Play → Played
  • Jump → Jumped
  • Cry → Cried
  • Cook → Cooked
  • Wash → Washed

Irregular Verbs

These verbs are special cases that have different past tense and past participle forms.

  • Eat → Ate
  • See → Saw
  • Have → Had
  • Drink → Drank
  • Think → Thought
  • Swim   Swam
