Form

Let’s review the way we format the past simple.  Just like the present continuous, the past continuous is the auxiliary verb “be” + the base verb + ing.  Do not forget to conjugate the “be” verb into past tense.

Positive Negative Question
I was playing soccer I wasn’t playing soccer Was I playing soccer?
You were playing soccer You weren’t playing soccer Were you playing soccer?
He was playing soccer He wasn’t playing soccer Was he playing soccer?
She was playing soccer She wasn’t playing soccer Was she playing soccer?
It was playing soccer It wasn’t playing soccer Was it playing soccer?
We were playing soccer We weren’t playing soccer Were we playing soccer?
They were playing soccer They weren’t playing soccer Were they playing soccer?

Notice that, unlike in past simple, we do not need to change the base verb if it’s regular or irregular.
