Students explore vocabulary and activities related to politics, including topics such as the United Nations, elections, capital punishment, etc..

Probability

Students learn the reasons for expressing probability of present and future events in contrast to what one truly knows for certain.

Ability and Advice

Students expand their knowledge about expressing ability and advice and learn variations that are required depending on time or meaning.

Obligation and Advice

Students review the basic ways in English of expressing obligation and learn other phrases popularly used. Students also learn how to express willingness and refusal.
Grammar
4-1 Probability

Students first review common rules of using modal verbs and then practice how modal verbs can be used to express probability. The following modal verbs of probability are included: must, can, should, may, might, and could.

4-2 Ability and Advice

Students practice using modal verbs and other phrases to accurately express ability as well as different expressions for expressing advice.

4-3 Obligation and Willingness

Students learn higher-level rules for using must, have (got) to and other phrases for explaining obligation. In addition, the use of will and shall is explored in the context of expressing willingness.

Students examine the structure of an Agree/Disagree essay. Students then read a sample essay, proofread for errors and evaluate the overall quality of the composition.
