Now that we have learned the different ways of using infinitives, let's look at 4 more complex ways to use infinitives.


Infinitives in the Perfect Form

The Present Perfect is used to say that an action happened at a time in the past without specifying the exact time (review 6-3). To use infinitives in the perfect form (present perfect), you must use the infinitve to have + a past participle in the sentence.

Infinitive "to have" past participle
He was sure his mother expected him to have written by now.

His instructor expected Josh to have completed his assignment by yesterday.
