Do you want to be a ballet dancer? Ballet is a dance with beautiful and graceful movements. Each movement has to be precise.
A ballet dancer has to be flexible. The dancer might stretch every day. If a ballet dancer isn't flexible, he or she could get hurt.
There are five basic ballet positions. These positions have to do with where the feet are placed. Some of these positions are harder than others.
Ballet dancers wear pointe shoes. Have you seen them before? These shoes are not like other dancing shoes. These shoes have a little box at the front of the shoe. They are special shoes that allow the dancer to do certain movements. The dancers can spin and hop on the very tip of their shoes.
Ballet dancers also wear tutus. A tutu is a ballet skirt with short layers. Tutus can come in different colours. Some tutus can take up to 90 hours to make!
A ballet dancer will wear a leotard. It is a tight one piece clothing that a lot of dancers wear. It allows the dancers to move around easily. Some dancers will wear tights with their leotards.
Ballet dancers are always practicing. You might see them practicing in a ballet studio. Ballet studios have barres. Barres are important for ballet dancers. A barre allows the dancers to keep their balance. It helps to keep the dancers stable.
There are many techniques used in ballet dancing. The dancers follow them, so they don't get hurt.
Have you seen the pirouette? It is a move done by ballet dancers. The dancer stands on one foot and spins. It can be a hard move to do.
Arabesque is another ballet move. The dancer balances on one leg. The other leg extends backwards.
Ballet dancing can be great. You can become more flexible. You can become stronger. You can also learn how to work with others.
