You will be able to

  • demonstrate an understanding of the content of an interactive video explaining how to tell a joke; 
  • identify different parts of a question and answer joke;
  • respond appropriately to jokes that you have/haven’t understood; 
  • demonstrate listening comprehension and a knowledge of basic writing conventions by completing dictations of several punchlines of simple jokes; 
  • demonstrate understanding of some basic vocabulary connected to some simple jokes;
  • tell several jokes of your own choosing showing that you've understood and can follow some cultural rules around joke-telling; 
  • read, listen to, and demonstrate understanding of an article describing the importance of collocations in vocabulary building; 
  • identify and use common collocations when telling a joke; 
  • correct some common collocation errors; 
  • compare the role of humor in your culture with that of the US; 
  • reflect on your learning in a written/oral journal format.
