Driving Questions
Look at the three Driving Questions below and in your groups, decide which question you would like to answer. Each group can answer the same question or each group can answer different questions. The choice is yours!
- How can we create a 3D model of the universe to use as a teaching aid for kindergarten students?
- How can we teach others about the unique features of our universe?
- How can we show the ways night and day affect life on Earth?
Thinking Routine: Options Explosion
What will your group do or make to answer your Driving Question? Follow the prompts below to draw or write out some ideas with your group. Remember to download or save your work for future use!
Think about your group’s question and how you might want to answer the problem. Contemplate all the options you have to answer this question and how you might decide which option to go with. The aim of this exercise is to get you thinking and working together to create ideas. Everything is possible here!
List the obvious options. There would not be a decision unless there were at least two or three obvious options.
Now brainstorm all sorts of different options to find the “hidden” options. Often there are hidden options that are the real best choices. Be imaginative! Piggyback on ideas already up, combine ideas to get new ones, look for ideas of a very different kind, imagine you are in different roles and suggest ideas from the perspective of those roles, etc.
Ask: What have we learned about the situation from finding these options? This is a way of understanding the situation better.
