- Students work in pairs and open the corresponding pages below. The focus of this activity is omitting "who / that / which is and are / was / were" when followed by a participle.
- On both student pages are ten photos. The photos are the same for each student.
- The difference between the two pages is that under each photo, there are speaking prompts. On one page, students will find either the prompt, "Tell Your Partner:" or "Rephrase the Following Sentence:".
- For each photo, first, the student with the "Tell Your Partner" prompt must read their sentence to their partner.
- Tell Your Partner: The pineapple was grown in Hawaii.
- "The pineapple was grown in Hawaii."
- Next, the other student with the prompt "Rephrase the Following Sentence" must use the info given by the partner to rephrase their sentence. The student must rephrase the sentence without using a relative pronoun (that, which, who) and the "be" verb.
- Rephrase the Following Sentence: The pineapple was absolutely delicious!
- "The pineapple (that was) grown in Hawaii was absolutely delicious!"
