A summary is a condensed version of a writing, a conversation or an event. It presents the main ideas. Summaries are stated in your own words and ‘lifting’ is avoided. In summarizing you must understand the main idea and the key points.
Summary keys
- It includes the thesis statement that identifies what is being summarized.
- It identifies the main points or events.
- It includes any final observations or recommendations made in the original.
- It is written in your own words and objective- does not present your opinion.
