Points to keep in mind in Opinion essays or Debates
An opinion whether written or spoken tends to be tactful. Your opinion on a topic must be stated clearly, providing various viewpoints on the topic which are supported by reason and examples.
Opinion Essay
A successful essay must contain:
- an introduction in which you state your topic and opinion.
- the body which is made up of several paragraphs each of which presents a separate viewpoint supported by reason. You may want to consider aparagraph presenting the opposing viewpoint and reason why you think it is an unconvincing viewpoint.
- a conclusion in which you state your opinion using different words.
Points to consider
- Decide whether you agree or disagree with the subject of the topic, then brainstorm a list of your viewpoints and reasons.
- joining sentences with appropriate linking words and phrases.
- Each paragraph must contain a Topic Sentence.
- Linking words and phrases should be used to join one paragraph to the other.
