Checking that you have understood
When you have been given an instruction, it’s sometimes a good idea to check that you have understood. One way to do this is to ‘paraphrase’. That means that you repeat what the person said but use your own words.

Checking your understanding means that you can be sure you know what to do and the speaker can be sure that you have understood.
