In this activity, you will practice the skills you have developed in this Unit.
- Work in pairs. One of you is Student One, the other is Student Two.
- If you have three people, two of you can take turns, working with the third member of the group.
- Click on your page (Student One or Student Two) above.
- On your page, read the instructions and then take turns reading the sentences to your partner and checking their paraphrase.
Read the sentence to your partner, and then listen to their paraphrase. Help them to remember to:
- include the important information (in bold)
- use phrases to introduce the paraphrase (e.g. So… You mean… )
- check that they have paraphrased correctly (e.g. …is that what you mean? ...right?)
- sound friendly! π
If they are correct, say That’s it! Or Yes, thanks so much!
If they forget some information or get the information wrong, correct them.
If they don’t sound friendly, add: Are you feeling OK?
Could you check on Mrs. Ortega in Room 316? I don't think she has had her lunch yet.
Possible paraphrase: Did you say Mrs. Ortega in Room 316? OK, I'll check if she's had her lunch.
Before you start cleaning, introduce yourself with your name and department, and ask the patient if this is an ok time to clean.
Possible paraphrase: I see. So before I start, I should introduce myself and ask if it’s an OK time to clean?âΕΎš
Perform hand hygiene and put on gloves for all contact with soiled items.
Possible paraphrase: You mean I should clean my hands and wear gloves when I’m touching soiled items, right?
OK, let’s say that we meet for the movie tomorrow after work, maybe around eight o’clock outside the theater downtown.
Possible paraphrase: So, tomorrow at 8 for a movie outside the theater downtown. Have I got that right?
