Sometimes, explorers go to places where no one has ever been.
These places can be dangerous.

Life was hard for polar explorers!
Robert Falcon Scott was a famous explorer.
He tried to be the first man to reach the South Pole.
Scott and his team worked very hard.
In 1910, they went on a long trip called the Terra Nova Expedition.
They wanted to walk from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, and then return again.
After a long time, Scott and his team reached the South Pole.
But they were not the first ones there!
Roald Amundsen and his team had arrived five weeks earlier!
Roald Amundsen was another explorer.
He was the first human to reach the South Pole!
He was also the first human to reach the North Pole!
Sadly, Scott and his team died on their way back from the South Pole.
They never completed the Terra Nova Expedition.
In 2013, Ben Saunders decided to finish the Terra Nova Expedition.
He and his team went to the South Pole on foot!
He is only the third person to have reached the South Pole by walking.
Ben Saunders finally completed the Terra Nova Expedition.
He and his team completed the longest polar expedition in history!
