Project - Stained Glass Planet Earth
Unit Objectives
Trace a circle onto some wax paper.
Trace a circle (same size as above) onto the cardstock. Cut about 1cm bigger than the circle you drew, and then cut out the center (cut out where you drew the original circle).
Take out the tissue paper and have the children rip it into small pieces.
Separate the blue pieces from the green pieces, and give each group a pile of each colour.
Lay the wax circle on the table and cover in white glue. Use a paintbrush to spread the glue all over the circle.
Using the green and blue tissue paper have the children turn the circle into Earth. You can show them a map so they can see the shapes to make with the tissue paper pieces, but it doesn’t have to be exact.
Once they are finished with the tissue paper put some glue on the edge of the Earth and stick the cardstock circle on top.
Take another piece of wax paper and cover it in glue. Place the side with the glue on top of the Earth. Place some heavy items on top to flatten it.
Leave to dry and then cut out the Earth shape using your cardstock shape as a guide.
Add some string.
Place in a window and watch the light shine through them.
