Noun Modifiers

Noun modifiers are nouns that describe the head noun. The head noun is the noun that is talked about in the sentence (and the noun that is described).

  • Michael Phelps won a medal in the sixteenth Summer Olympics.
  • Notice that "Summer" is a noun that modifies Olympics. Summer in this case is the noun modifier.

Adjective Modifiers

Adjective modifiers are adjectives that describe the head noun.

  • Michael Phelps won a medal in the sixteenth Summer Olympics.
  • Notice that "sixteenth" is an adjective that modifies Olympics. "Sixteenth" in this case is the noun modifier.
