Hermes was the messenger of the gods. He lived on Mount Olympus like all of the other Greek gods. He had winged shoes and moved often between the world of the gods and the world of mortals.
Poseidon was called the God of the Sea because he controlled the oceans. He is often depicted carrying a trident. Poseidon also controlled earthquakes, so he is sometimes referred to as Earth-Shaker.
In Greek mythology, Eros is the god of love. His Roman counterpart is called Cupid, and this is the character we see often in movies and on Valentine's Day decorations as a symbol of love.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom and many other things. She is the patron goddess of Athens, which is why the city is named after her. She is often seen with owls and olive trees, as they are both symbols for her.
