In an earlier unit, you learned about unity and making sure your supporting sentences were all connected to the main idea. It is also important to put your supporting sentences in a logical order–an order that makes sense to the reader. The way you order your supporting sentences will depend on the type of paragraph you are writing:

Time Order

You use time order when you are telling a story. When you are writing about an experience, you usually order your sentences based on what happened first, then what happened next, etc.

Space Order

When describing a place or thing, you need to put your details in order based on what you see first. If you are describing a building, you will describe the outside first, and then the inside. If you are describing a person, you will describe the whole person (tall, short, etc), then most likely describe him or her from head to toe.
