Sentences can tell us many types of information, depending on the punctuation that is used.

A statement is a sentence that tells us something.

  • I like reading.
  • He likes art.
  • She likes sports.

A question is a sentence that asks us something. Questions always end with a question mark (?)

  • Do you like reading?
  • Can you draw?
  • What sports do you play?

A command is a sentence that tells us to DO something.

  • Read your book.
  • Do your homework.
  • Go to bed.

An exclamation is a sentence that tells us something surprising or exciting. An exclamation always ends with an exclamation mark (!)

  • The book was amazing!
  • Ouch, my finger!
  • Look at that!
