What’s tested
Four skills tested in one sitting
The test measures the academic English a student needs to follow lectures, read course texts, write for assignments and speak in class.
Listening
40 questions on recorded conversations and talks: short answers and multiple choice.
Reading
38 questions on academic and everyday texts: short answers, multiple choice and drop-downs.
Writing
Two tasks: describe visual information, then write an academic essay.
Speaking
14 recorded answers: introducing yourself, discussing a topic and describing an image.
Scoring
A pass requires 55% in every section
Every section has to reach 55% for a pass, reported as equivalent to IELTS 5.5 Academic and CEFR B2. A strong reading score can’t cover for weak speaking, so a pass means the student is ready in all four skills.
