Take a quiz in the Smrt app

Start a quiz, pick up where you left off, and hand it in before it closes. Teachers can release the answers and add students who joined later.

For students, teachers5 stepsUpdated 7 October 2026

Open the Quizzes tab and tap Start quiz. A sheet tells you how many questions there are, the time limit if there is one, and when the quiz closes. Your answers save as you go, so you can leave and tap Resume quiz later. Submit before the quiz closes. Quizzes need an internet connection.

Take the quiz

  1. Open the Quizzes tab. Quizzes are under In progress, Available and Completed.

  2. Tap Start quiz on an available quiz. Read the sheet, then tap Start quiz.

  3. Answer the questions. You can move between them in any order.

  4. To stop, tap the back arrow on the first page and choose Close. Your answers are saved. Tap Resume quiz to go on.

  5. When you are done, open All questions and tap Submit answers. The app warns you if some questions have no answer.

After you submit, you cannot change your answers.

When the quiz closes

The quiz closes at its due time. If you did not submit, the answers you saved go to your teacher and the quiz shows "Handed in". If you did not start it, it shows Missed.

See your results

Open the quiz under Completed. You see your score and a score for each skill. If your teacher has hidden the answers, the app says your teacher will release your score, and you see it then. Writing and speaking answers may show To mark until your teacher marks them.

Teachers

  • Give a quiz: see Assign work in the Smrt app.
  • See results: open the quiz on the Quizzes tab to see who submitted and each student's score.
  • Release answers: once the quiz has closed, tap Release answers. The ⋯ menu also has Release answers or Hide answers, Change due date, and Remove quiz. You can only remove a quiz before anyone submits.
  • Students who joined later: the quiz page shows a banner with how many students joined after you gave the quiz. Tap Add them.
  • Reopen a quiz for one student: see Reopen an assignment or quiz for a student.

If it still doesn't work

  • The Quizzes tab is missing: you are offline. Quizzes come back when you are online.
  • A quiz is not in your list: it may be for another class, or your teacher has not given it yet. If you joined the class late, ask your teacher to add you.
  • The quiz closed before you finished: ask your teacher. See Reopen an assignment or quiz for a student.
