Assign work in the Smrt app

Open Class, open a unit on the Course tab, and tap Assign next to a lesson. Choose a due date, choose when students see the answers, and tap Assign. To assign several lessons at once, tap Select. An exercise you assigned in the last 30 days is greyed out and cannot go out again yet.

Assign an exercise

You can start from:

• Class: open a unit on the Course tab and tap Assign next to a lesson.
• Exercises tab: tap Assign exercise, then choose a lesson.
• Home: under Up next to assign, tap the round button next to a lesson.
• A lesson: tap Assign at the bottom.

Then, in the Assign sheet:

1. Due: choose Today, Tomorrow, a day this week, In a week (the default) or No due date. Tap Pick a date for another day. Work is due at 11:59 pm in your school's time zone.

2. Show answers to students: After they submit, or When I release (the default).

3. Tap Add a note for students if you want to add a note.

4. Tap Assign.

Students who have notifications on hear about the new work. See Turn app notifications on or off.

If a lesson has more than one exercise, the sheet lists them with tick boxes. The next exercise is ticked. Tick more to assign them together.

Assign several lessons

1. Open a unit on the Course tab and tap Select.

2. Tick the lessons.

3. Tap Assign N exercises. One sheet sets the due date and answers for all of them.

You can also tap Select in the Assign exercise list on the Exercises tab, and tick lessons from any unit.

Why is a lesson greyed out?

An exercise you assigned to this class in the last 30 days cannot go out again. It is greyed out with the date, for example "Assigned 1 Oct".

After 30 days, Assign shows again. The sheet says when it was assigned before. Assigning it again replaces that copy, so students start fresh.

In the Assign exercise list, lessons shared in the last 30 days are hidden. Tap the eye button next to the search to show them.

Give a quiz

1. Open the Quizzes tab and tap Assign quiz.

2. Choose a quiz.

3. Set the due date. Quizzes need one, and the default is today.

4. Add a note if you want, then tap Assign quiz.

A quiz that is open in this class, or was due in the last 30 days, is greyed out. It says "Open in this class, due …" or "Given recently, closed …". If students joined after you gave the quiz, open the quiz and tap Add them. See Take a quiz in the Smrt app.

If Assign quiz is greyed out, your course has no quizzes.

Change it later

Open the assignment from the Exercises tab and tap ⋯ to Change due date, Add a note or Remove exercise.

Assign with no internet

You can assign with no connection. The lesson shows Waiting to send, and the work goes out when you are back online. The 30-day rule is checked then. See My work says "Waiting to send".
