Smrt app

Use the Smrt app as a school admin

Check how your school is doing each week, and manage classes, teachers and students from your phone.

For school leadersUpdated 7 October 2026

The Smrt app is for school admins too. Sign in with the same account you use for the Dashboard on the website. Your classes, teachers and students are the same in both places.

Get the app

Already have the Smrt app? Update it to get the new version.

Tap Log in with Google or Log in with Microsoft. Use the same email address you use on the website. The app has no sign-up and no password reset. See Sign in with Google or Microsoft and I can't sign in to the Smrt app.

Choose a school

If you look after more than one school, tap the school name at the top of the screen to switch. The app remembers your choice.

Home

Home shows Last 7 days at your school, compared with the 7 days before:

  • Active students.
  • Work handed in.
  • Hand-in rate.
  • Average score.

Under it, Needs attention lists only what needs a look, with a count:

  • Classes with nothing assigned in 14 days.
  • Teachers who are not assigning work.
  • Join requests. Tap Approve or Decline.
  • Classes with a hand-in rate below 60% this week.
  • Students who have not been active for 2 weeks.

Tap a row to open the class, teacher or student. Every Monday at 7 am, the app sends you a summary of the week. See Turn app notifications on or off.

Classes

The Classes tab lists every class with its teacher, students, when work was last assigned, and the hand-in rate.

  • New class: choose the teacher and the course. The app suggests a class name, which you can change. The teacher gets an email.
  • Open a class to see its students, its latest work and its attendance.
  • ⋯ menu: Change teacher.
  • Add students: copy the class code to send to students, or add students by email. New students get an invitation.
  • ⋯ on a student's row: Move to another class or Remove from class. Work they handed in stays with the old class.

Teachers

The Teachers tab lists your teachers with their classes, students and when they last assigned work.

  • Add teacher: enter their email. They get an invitation. You can also give them a new class or an existing class at the same time.
  • Open a teacher to see their classes and recent assignments, or tap Email teacher.

Students

The Students tab lists every student at your school. Sort by newest or A to Z, or search by name or email.

  • Add student: choose the class, then enter one or more email addresses. New students get an invitation. You can also copy the class code from here.
  • Open a student to see their classes, scores, attendance and recent work.
  • Add to class puts the student in another class.
  • Change email updates the address they sign in with. See Change a student's email address.

Library

The Library tab shows the courses your school can use, and how many classes and students use each one. Open a course to see its units and what it includes. Under Available to add are other courses. Tap Ask us to turn it on to send us a request.

School settings

Tap your school's logo at the top left to open the school panel. You can:

  • Add or change the school logo. It shows in the app and on the website.
  • Change the school's short name and long name.
  • Copy your school's link.
  • Set the time zone. It sets due times and when notifications are sent.
